SCHOLARSHIP

Seamen’s Society’s Scholarship Program

For our foster care youth, Seamen’s Society stands in place of parents in some instances. For other youth, our programs serve as a positive alternative to the streets. All of our youth receive our encouragement and support to set high expectations for them, and to help define their hopes and aspirations for the future.

To do this effectively, our children need our financial assistance when they graduate from high school and go on to college or vocational schools. Since its inception in 1998, Seamen’s has awarded 153 scholarships. The program has already produced 37 college graduates.

On Wednesday, July 11, 2012 Seamen’s Society held its 15th Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner at the Vanderbilt on Staten Island. This year, 19 young men and women were presented scholarship awards to assist them in their pursuit of higher education in various local and out of state colleges. Over 100 guests attended, including, donors, members of Seamen’s Board of Trustees, representatives from local community leaders, individuals and staff joined in on the festivities and extended their congratulations to our recipients. Seamen’s Society also acknowledged our very special donors for their continued support of the program that started in 1998. To date, 37 students have graduated from the program.
