Since the early 1980’s, Seamen’s Society has addressed the HIV/AIDS crisis through innovative programs and services. Today, as improved medical treatment has shifted AIDS from a rapid killer to a chronic disease, we have altered our approach to the disease by providing several different programs and services to the community. Each of these programs, however, are only provided on Staten Island:
Adult mentors and teens from Partners in Prevention work to educate each other and the community about HIV and AIDS. |
EARLY PERMANENCY PLANNING PROGRAM (EPP) provides an opportunity for parents who are HIV positive or have AIDS to assist in planning the future care of their children. The program offers many critical services including case management, counseling, support services and legal assistance. Call 1-888-837-6687 ext 4313 for more information on EPP. PARTNERS IN PREVENTION (PIP) is an HIV/AIDS education and prevention program within the Teen Advocacy Program. PIP matches teens and adult mentors who work together to learn about this disease and then provides educational groups and workshops for other young people in the community. Call 1-888-837-6687 ext 4623 for information on PIP. |
SUPPORTIVE SERVICES CLINIC provides free and confidential mental health services for Gay and Bisexual adults living with HIV/AIDS on Staten Island; school age children and members of the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Trans-sexual and Questioning) community. The development of this program has been made possible by generous grants from the Paul Rapoport Foundation and the Henry van Ameringen Foundation. We are extremely grateful to these two foundations for their unstinting and continued support of these HIV/AIDS services. All services of the Clinic are free and confidential.
